Admittedly I have been a Corel user since the days the previous company called Ulead made VideoStudio, so I guess I am somewhat biased with my review. My last version I had installed on my PC running Windows 8.1 was VideoStudio X6, but having recently moved to Windows 10, I decided to "upgarde" to Videostudio X8 - albeit I bought the software as new - not the upgrade version. I went for the ultimate edition as on Amazon, bizarrely, this was cheaper than the VideoStudio Pro (and as I write this review, that is still the case). You can then get a free update patch that moves it from version 8 to vesrion 8.5 - so don't waste your money by purchasing the recently released version X8.5 which is advertised on the Corel website at £70+.

Installation was very straightforward and took no more than around 15 mnins. However, what is disappointing is the free content that comes with the package. Instead of having the ability to download the free content all at once, you have to download each small file separately! I have not counted the total number of files, but it must be well north of 30 individual files! This took me nearly an hr as you have to download the files, unzip, and then install. Why Corel cant bundle these together I have no idea.

I am a basic videostudio user so I cant comment on the free plug ins that you get with the ultimate edition over the pro edition - these are for the more advanced user. Personally, I have normally stuck to the Pro version. It was only on this occasion the the ultimate version was cheaper than the Pro version. The software is very easy to use with essentially three tabs that takes you from the capture, edit and share options in logical order. There is also a "fast flick" option but I tend not to use this.
