If this was installed after the PC was purchased (Didn't come pre-installed and activated) I think Microsoft makes you register to a Microsoft Account? I know when I was working at Staples every time we had to install this software we had to login to the customer's Microsoft Account and register it.

Belarc does not work on Office
I have installed Office on four separate domain connected machines entering different retail keys. Unfortunately I used the same Hotmail account for all four installs (since MS wants you to log in during each install). What I believe this has done is attached the initial key I used to all four installs. I determined this using Ted's script.
I am now being told the key has reached it's limit.
Any ideas on how to get around this?
Tried using Belar, was always my go to for software keys, but it doesn't appear to work w/ Office Tried it this am on my machine

Do we know if SpiceWorks is planning to add scan functionality to extract the last five characters of the code? Seems like the code isn't stored locally with Ofifce H&B but the last five characters ARE stored, and it would be a big help if SW could extract these.
I ran that script and it returned the WRONG product keys on two computers. I have the box Office installs with the credit card Product IDs, both running Office Not going to try it on any others.

According to Belarc, the product keys for Office is not stored locally on the computer, only the last 5 digits seem to be what is available for identification.
Users that register several keys under same account, should consider logging the keys in a local archive. When ever the PKC has been used, it can not be used to retrieve any information in the future. Microsoft will not help (they say, they have no way of doing so) if you loose the product key or login to the account in question. This Means, that should you or your customer forget the account they used for registering the PKC initially, there is no way you can regain access to the paid for Office product Been there, tried it
Conclusion: Register the product, choose "install from Disc", choose to burn your own disc, and from there you can see your actual product key. Put that key in your local administered archive/documentation. Then install the Office package at the computer, knowing you are home safe if you or your customer forgets either login or changes mail address or whatever

Although with my installs, we buy the retail version and use the key from the box. When I had a couple of problems activating office, I tried a reinstall from the account ( same account for many installs ), and found out that the key on the box is NOT the key registered on the account !! I tried using the using the script to get the last five digits, I could not find the installer for the install I did and ended up activating over phone.
I haven't yet had to do a full reinstall, so say if a machine is replaced and I cant run the script, or possibly, if as William did, I may have used the same key on several machines, my question would be, how can I reinstall from a boxed retail product key when there is no corrollation between the box key and the install key ?
I am currently creating a new account for each install and logging that into the future against our customer account.
Belarc is a good tool indeed but I'm afraid it does not cover Office also.
So therefore, there is no way to retrieve the license key used on that office installation??
When you lost the key, does it mean I have to buy a new Office?

Edited Apr 30, at UTCThis issue is about to make me pull my hair out. Normally License Crawler works wonders on almost every machine I try it on. I have one particular machine where I purchased Office Pro with the machine, and of course it came pre-installed but without the key, which was required to be entered from the little piece of paper that came with the computer. Of course now I've lost that paper, and need to re-install Office due to the computer's drive crashing. Windows was easy, as this is a Dell computer, but Office still requires the key to be entered. I have the old hard drive, and can still operate Office on it (except Outlook which suffers from the original drive issue). The script does pull the last 5 digits, which does not match any of the current keys I have saved.
Just kills me that Microsoft is so paranoid that they now have cost me another $ just to fix a simple problem!!! Microsoft used to be a cool company, in the past year they've completely changed. And not for the good of it's most important fans, the techies like us!
OK This problem is solved, here is what you do:
I go to www.spearpointsecuritygroup.com and put in the temporary product ID. After you log into your account I do what others have said and that is select Burn to a Disc, (FIRST TIME ONLY to get a hard copy of Office Of course when you do this your REAL Product ID will be miraculously reviewed to you. You are good install. But, this is the good part. On you next Office install, once again go to the www.spearpointsecuritygroup.com, put in your temp Product ID, log in, but this time choose ' I have a disk'. And that is it. You're real product ID will than be revealed. Enter the setup for office that is on your burnt disk, and install your next coy of office Of course, Microsoft just wants to make sure, you will have to reactivate your license. Put in the REAL Product ID and that is it. This is done. One thing I also learned is that since I install a lot of Office ,on a lot of computers, using the same account, at thirty copies you are told to create a new account, which I did. Also you can check your account to see all the copies you have installed. They number them, so I am now writing down on my office box that installed number, just in case I need to re-install in the future.

Edited Dec 13, at UTCHi Everyone, Office gets installed using a new engine, similar to that of a virtualized application. Unless you're using the OLP - paper license version, the way traditional keyfinder works will not be able to extract the right information.
Question is, does anyone use www.spearpointsecuritygroup.com and test with these 'click-to-run' editions of Ms Office ?
I have confirmed on numerous systems that BelArc's Belasset latest version as of July does not work in getting License keys anymore.
License Crawlers work only up till Office and Windows 7. It will not get Windows 8 serial numbers as well.
