Transfer Your Viber History From One Device to Another
When you change phone take your message history from your old phone to your new one. You can even move your chats over when you change phone number. Follow these steps to keep your messages and images and avoid starting your chats all over again.
Step 1: Back up your history on your old phone
Back up messages on Android
- Open Viber
- Select the more options screen
- Select Settings
- Tap on Account
- Select Viber Backup
- Choose Back up
- Wait while Viber backs up your data (this can take a while)
Please note: you must have your Viber account connected to your Google Drive before you can back up your messages.
Back up messages on iPhone
- Open Viber
- Select the more options screen
- Select Settings
- Choose Account
- Select Viber Backup
- Choose Back up now
- Wait while Viber backs up your data to the iCloud (this can take a while)
Please note: you must be connected to your iCloud before you can back up your messages. If you aren't connected to the iCloud service.

Are you changing phone number as well as phone?
If yes, you need to activate your new number on your old phone before you back up your history and move to your new phone.
- Change and verify your phone number on the old device
- Back up your Viber account and chats
- Download and activate Viber on your new phone
- Follow the instructions to restore your history

Step 2: Activate Viber on the new phone
Once you have backed up your history on the old phone, download and activate Viber on your new phone.
iPhone
- Install Viber from the App Store
- Open the app
- Select Continue
- Enter your phone number in the format below and click continue:
- Tap Your Country and choose from the dropdown menu
- Enter your phone number (without spaces, leading zeros (0s), or exit codes)
5. Confirm your number by selecting Yes
6. Wait at least 60 seconds - Viber will send you an SMS message with your access code
7. Type the access code into the Viber setup screen.
8. Enter your info to login
Android
- Install Viber from the Google Play Store
- Open the app
- Select Continue
4. Enter your phone number in the following format:
- Tap Your Country and choose from the drop-down menu
- Enter your phone number (without spaces, leading zeros (0s), or exit codes)
5. Verify your number is correct, tap Yes
6. You will receive an activation call that you don't have to answer
7. If you don't receive a call, wait 60 seconds for an SMS with your access code
8. If you don't get a call or SMS, choose to either Resend SMS or Activate via Call
9. Type the access code into the Viber setup screen
10. Enter your info to login
Step 3: Restore your Viber history on your new phone
Restore messages on Android
- Connect to your Google Drive Account
- Activate Viber
- Select Restore Viber Content
OR
- Open the more screen
- Tap on Settings
- Choose Account
- Select Viber Backup
- Tap on Restore
- Select Restore Now
Please note: restoring your messages takes time and data. Viber will always offer you the option to delay restoring your messages until you are on Wi-Fi. If you choose to delay, Viber will ask you to restore your data the next time you connect to Wi-Fi.
Restore messages on iPhone
- Connect to your iCloud account
- Activate Viber
- Viber will automatically offer to restore your previous backup. Select Restore now
- This may take a few minutes
Please note: restoring your messages takes time and data. Viber will always offer you the option to delay restoring your messages until you are on Wi-Fi. If you choose to delay, Viber will prompt you to restore your data the next time you connect to W-Fi.
