Archive of Our Own beta
The morning after her and Byleth's wedding, Emperor Edelgard von Hresvelg wakes up in her old bedroom in Garreg Mach to discover that she has brown hair, only one Crest, ten happy and healthy brothers and sisters, and a bad habit of sleeping through her professor's lectures. Hubert is unusually cheerful, Byleth teaches the Blue Lions, and nobody has heard of the Flame Emperor.
As she works to figure out how to return to the world and the future she knew, Edelgard will do anything to get close to her beloved wife Byleth again... even if it means abandoning her friends in the Black Eagles Strike Force. Meanwhile, she must unravel the mystery of the Hurricane King and his sinister henchman the Death Knight. What could Those Who Slither in the Dark be plotting in this strange new world — and if Edelgard isn't a part of their plans, then who is?

Fire Emblem, a tactical role-playing video game franchise set within a Medieval time period across fictional continents, was developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo. It now consists of 15 games across multiple game systems. Its RPG simulation is based on the tactical movement of characters across grid-based environments while incorporating a story, characters, and decision making similar to a traditional RPG video game. Gameplay is notable for the permanent death of characters and their subsequent removal from all action. The title “Fire Emblem” refers to a recurring motif across the series represented by a weapon or shield and symbolizing the power of war and dragons.
