Good little adapter but requires some different drivers to work on Mac (see how in the review)

Running on OSX El Capitan (10.11.6) as my Wife's built-in wifi died.DESPITE ALL INFO SAYING IT DOESN'T WORK, IT DOES WORK!HERE IS THE INFO YOU NEED - the drivers for OSX do NOT work for this device. Don't bother using ANY drivers for the WF-R3.You need to go to aukeyDOTcom and got to their downloadsTHEN download the driver for WF-R13....(WF-R13-for-Mac)Before installing - UNINSTALL any attempts thus far to get this device working. If you don't, your Mac will go into a perpetual cycle of trying to boot. (This only way around this is to boot in "safe" mode and uninstall the driver from there).BUT THE DEVICE DOES WORK - hopefully my trial and error will help some people out. Works on an old (2009) Macbook Pro. But, very slow.
My aging Macbook Pro's WiFi hardware suddenly stopped working. Everything else works fine. So, given the large number of positive reviews for this product and its low price, I bought it to gain back WiFi capability. While it works, you should be aware of a couple of gotchas for this product. 1. Its software comes on a mini-CD disc. Macs with a DVD/CD drive are the slide-in type that will not accept a mini-disc. Fortunately, I had an external USB CD/DVD drive that has a slide-out tray that can deal with the disc. 2. The WiFi control panel is completely separate from the OS/X configuration settings. It is essentially its own application. This is not necessarily a bad thing. But, you should be aware of it. 3. No matter how I configure it, it is incapable of download speeds faster than about 6Mbps and download speeds of about 0.6 Mbps. Typically, other computers/tablets/phones (including this Macbook Pro when its native WiFi hardware was working) can download at between 50 and 100 Mbps and upload at between 9 to 11 Mbps. The slow download and upload speeds are Ok for simple web browsing and email. But, I'm looking for another low-cost USB WiFi product compatible with my Mac.... Read more...

I have to leave this item a one star review even though I initially was quite happy with item. The first one I was shipped completely fell apart within the first two weeks. When taking the dongle out of the USB port it broke in half. The "duckbill" stayed in the port while the circuit board and casing was in my hand. After prying the "duckbill" out of the USB port I contacted Aukey.Their service department was exceptional and sent me a new unit within two days. The new unit worked well for about 2 months or so, but in the last few weeks it has started dropping connections, loosing my 5 Ghz band completely (which is why I bought the dongle in the first place), and frequently disappears from my installed devices list. I have tried many different USB ports and disabled the on-board WiFi just in case there is a conflict. This has not rectified the problem, only making it more apparent when the dongle magically disappears. I have contacted Aukey again and will update the review based on their response.In terms of size and usability this was an excellent unit and very easy to setup and use. When it works properly it is a powerhouse of a WiFi adapter. I would often get speeds up to and sometimes over 100Mbps on 5.0 Ghz band. I hope this review is helpful and please mark as such if it is. Worked fine, then dead as a doornail--UPDATED 5/27/2017
Purchased this back in April to speed up a laptop without 5G capability. Worked fine... until it died unexpectedly (on Christmas, no less) for no reason. I've read other reviews where people have had the same problems and have emailed the customer support to take advantage of their 24 month warranty. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, as they've told others they'll ship out a new one within 24 hours if that's the customer's preference. I understand that things happen, and I'll have no problem recommending it as long as they honor their warranty period and send me one that actually works more than eight months. If not, I'll stick by my two star and find an alternative product.UPDATED--Aukey did end up sending me a replacement, which I got in a few days. And guess what? THE REPLACEMENT IS NOW DEAD. The previous adapter lasted eight months. This one didn't make it six. I supposed you get what you pay for. Product description should be renamed to Disposable WiFi Adapter. I'm not going to bother with going through the warranty for another replacement that will die again like its two older siblings. I cannot and will not recommend this product. Poor reception and performance, but excellent customer service
UPDATE: Although the product was unsatisfactory the seller "Tianyue Dazzling" had excellent customer service - gave a full refund and offered to send a replacement free of chargePoorer signal and Wi-Fi speed than my 3 year old Netgear N150 2.4GHz Wi-Fi adapter. My Nexus 5X had better speeds on Wifi, picked up more wireless netoekrs and had greater signal strength in the same spot. Returned it and got the TP link Archer T4U AC1200 instead, for a few quid more. Much better than the Aukey and Netgear adapters, great speed and signal reception, better than any other adapter/phone/tablet I have used.... Read more...

Tiny, but ultimately too variable to be much use.
It connected well enough on my 8year old DELL laptop which was running Windows 10. I also know that such a device on USB2 will achieve a maximum tx rate of around 450-480mbps. So, yes it found and connected to my router OK, however although I saw initially a 450mbps connection it quickly became clear that could not be maintained. TX speeds then continued to vary up and down from old-style levels of 54mbps or less up to the maximum. It would not settle down. I think the basic problem with such miniature devices like this is that they don't have enough aerial to keep the signal strength where it should be. 2.4 GHz driver loads automatically in Windows 10, but the 5 GHz driver requires installation. A minor inconvenience. Signal reception is good, and with a Speakeasy speed test it gets wire speed for downloads on my 75 Mbps FiOS network, and something less than that for uploads on the symmetric link, but that's still a lot better than with the built-in network radio. [Follow-up: Ran more speed tests and upload matched download on some.] HOWEVER, I was sent an opened and returned item. It is obviously and definitely not factory-fresh. I ordered what I assumed would be a new part, and received one that is used, so I cannot give it more than three stars.Follow-up: This dongle is working perfectly. The manufacturer has offered to replace the used unit I received, but I don't feel the need to bother doing that. Very poor in a number of respects!
This took me an hour to set up, the supplied software CD is useless and I had to download the driver from the website which took an age. Also, which bright spark pasted a large and non-removal barcode label over the 'How it works' instructions on the box? Finally the instruction manual is printed far too small, the lettering on the screen pictures is so small as to be unreadable and even under a 30X jewellers loupe, the words are so small they are simply pixels which are entirely unreadable. I purchased the Aukey usb wifi adapter based on the relatively good reviews on it. The device was easy to set up. I installed the driver, plugged in the usb adapter, and connected to my home wifi network. I got strong internet connection and no dropped signal. I liked that the adapter is really small. The adapter automatically powers on when I boot up the computer (I'm using Windows 8). I used it for two weeks and then the device suddenly dies. I went to power up my computer and the adapter did not power on at all. It wasn't my wifi network as I could use my tablet to go online. I tried it on different usb ports and nothing. No power. I tried it on a different computer and still nothing. I was indeed very disappointed that the new product I bought didn't even last 30 days. I sent it back to Amazon to be returned. I bought it as a stop gap until I could get round to installing ethernet cable. It worked perfectly, so well in fact I'd put off cabling. However the recent windows 10 update has made it unreliable. OK for Windows but not Linux or Raspberry Pi
Seems to work as expected in Windows BUT very difficult to get working on Linux and Raspberry Pi. Not to say they don't work on Linux/Raspberry Pi as they do BUT it takes a long time to get working and when they are working they constantly drop packets meaning that right now I am not using the 2 I bought.
