* NOTE: Some steps may be slightly different, depending on your device.

DOWNLOADING MP3 AUDIOBOOKS OR ADOBE EPUB BOOKS

Initial Setup

  1. Go to the App Store and search for OverDrive Media Console (OMC). When it comes up, touch the app to begin installation. Depending on your device, you may have to enable it to allow apps to install and/or give payment information. The app is free, but you may still need to enter the information.
  2. When it’s finished installing, tap on the OMC app to open. The app should prompt you to create an Overdrive account. If you have one, sign in. If not, sign up with your email as the username, and create a password.
    * You should only have to do this once, but make sure you remember the password in case you need to enter it again in the future.

  3. If this is the first time using your device, tap on the home menu button (three lines) and then ‘Add a library’ on the menu that opens up. Enter “43558” in the search field and tap ‘search.’ Select ‘Swanton LSD Public Library’ from the top of the list. On the next screen, touch the star next to the Ohio Digital Library to save it, then tap on the ‘Ohio Digital Library.’

  4. Touch ‘Sign in’ on the top right of the Ohio Digital Library screen. At the login screen, select Swanton LSD Public Library from the dropdown menu and tap ‘Go’. At the next screen, enter your Library card number and touch ‘sign in’. You can check the box to remember the card number if you want, so you won’t have to enter it again. Last, click on ‘Account’ and then ‘Settings’ to set your default lending periods. You can choose up to twenty-one days.

Finding and Downloading Media

  1. In the Overdrive app, tap on the menu icon and then on ‘The Ohio Digital Libray’. From here, you can login to your account with your library card and then search for a specific title or just browse.

  2. There are two main ways to look for titles. Either tap on the menu icon (three horizontal lines) at the top of the screen to pull up format genres to search in (eBook fiction and nonfiction, audiobook fiction or nonfiction, etc.), or tap on the magnifying glass icon to bring up a search box to look for specific titles. You will need your library card number to check out.
    * Search results show covers of book titles. In the upper right corner of the cover, you’ll see an icon. An open book means the title is an eBook; a pair of headphones means it’s an audiobook. If the icon is light gray, the title is checked out. If it’s black, then it’s available.

  3. When you have found a title, tap on the cover of the book. A blue 'Borrow' button will appear. Tap on that to check it out.
    * Do NOT check out anything with Kindle format for this app. Use only for mp3 audiobooks or EPUB or PDF formats. To check formats for a certain title, click on 'more' after tapping the cover and then scroll down.

  4. Tap either ‘Download’ or, if it’s an eBook, ‘Read (in your browser)’.
    * While you can read in the browser, it won’t be downloaded to the actual device, so you would have to return to the Ohio eBook Project every time you want to read, and may lose your place. Downloading is fast and easier to access.

  5. If you chose ‘Download’, you may need to choose a format and click on ‘Confirm & Download’. Remember to only choose mp3 audiobooks or EPUB or PDF formats. The title is now on your OMC Bookshelf.

Returning Items Early

  1. Books will be automatically returned. To return the book early, go to OMC’s bookshelf and touch and hold the cover.

  2. The option ‘Return book’ should pop up. Touch that and confirm. This will both return your book on OMC and delete it from your device.

Initial Setup

  1. Go to the App Store and search for ‘kindle’. The first result should be ‘Kindle – read books, magazines, & more’.

  2. When it comes up, touch the app to begin installation and confirm.

Finding and Downloading Kindle Books

  1. To search for books to borrow, you do NOT want to go through the kindle app. Use either the OverDrive app to search for books (see other side), or use the web browser to go directly to the Digital Library website athttp://ohioebooks.com and then browse or search.
    * You can specific Kindle format by tapping ‘Filter Search By:’ and then ‘Format’ and selecting Kindle.

  2. When you have found a title, tap on the cover of the book. A blue 'Borrow' button will appear. Tap on that to check it out.

  3. On the next screen, touch download. If asked, select the Kindle format and confirm. You will be taken to Amazon’s site. Tap ‘Get library book’ in the yellow box. If you are not logged into Amazon, you will prompted to log in. Enter your Amazon account information.

  4. Select the device to deliver the book to using the dropdown menu (your device should already be there, but if not change it), then tap the yellow box marked ‘Continue’.

  5. You should get a thank you screen. Go back to the home screen and touch the Kindle app. When it opens, your book should appear there after a moment. Touch it to start reading.

Returning Items Early/Deleting

  1. Books will be automatically returned. To return Kindle books borrowed from Amazon early, you must open the browser and go tohttp://www.amazon.comand sign in.

  2. Once you are logged in, tap on ‘Your Account’ near the top right and then select ‘Manage Your Content and Devices’. This will open a list of all the items you have.

  3. In the 'Actions' column, click on the box (with three dots in it) next to the name of the library eBook you would like to return. A menu will pop up. Select 'Return this book'.

  4. The book will still appear in your Kindle app, however, unless you delete it. Go back to the Kindle app and touch and hold the cover of the book. ‘Delete permanently’ should appear. Tap on that to remove the book.
    * If you instead get a screen telling you the book has been returned, tap the screen until the ‘home’ button appears and touch that to go back. Then touch and hold the cover again.
