Why Choose a Virtual PBX Phone System?
A virtual or cloud PBX system allows you to place and receive calls from a PC or a mobile device as well as a desk phone. As long as you have an internet connection, you’ll have phone connectivity.
How PBX Systems Work
With a legacy PBX phone system, calls are routed through the PBX, a telecom switch that resides on the customer’s premises. The business is responsible for maintaining the necessary hardware on-site. A legacy PBX connects to the public switched telephone network (PSTN) to initiate a phone call. Aside from basic call forwarding, users do not have the ability to use a legacy PBX system when located outside the office.
a cloud PBX system using VoIP, the PSTN network is interconnected via an internet connection to route the call. That means full phone functionality from anywhere with an internet connection.
Advantages of Virtual PBX
No hardware to maintain
With a cloud PBX phone system, there’s no need to maintain or rely on any hardware on premises. That means less hassle of maintaining equipment, and the ability to leverage modern hardware rather than staying with the same phone model for years.
Flexible and agile communications
Customers depend on a virtual PBX system to deliver flexible communication interactions with customers and colleagues regardless of the location - at the office, working remotely, or even on the go.
Reduced costs
Cloud PBX phone systems provide the ability to use modern devices and because they are software-based, new features can be added frequently.
Zoom Phone Hardware as a Service
Purchase and deploy a complete phone solution with virtually no upfront costs.
Learn MoreVizio V-Series 50-inch 4K HDR Smart TV (V505-G9) Review: A Great TV
The Vizio V-Series 50-inch 4K HDR Smart TV (V505-G9) is a smart TV for the budget-conscious, delivering 4K picture and smart functionality for well under $500. While not advertised as part of Vizio's SmartCast lineup, it still offers all of the features that make the SmartCast line enticing, like built-in Google Chromecast capability, a selection of locally installed apps, and a dedicated channel of free streaming content. Besides that, it's also a pretty good TV, with 4K picture, broad HDR support and a relatively attractive design. Overall, this Vizio is one of the best cheap TVs you can buy.
Editor's Note: (2/13/2020) If you've got the Vizio V505-G9, you're probably due to refresh the software. Check our guide to learn how to update your Vizio TV to the latest version of SmartCast.

Design
While inexpensive TVs rarely have the same sleek stylings seen on their more premium counterparts, the V505-G9 has a fairly slim and stylish look for a more basic model. The bezels around the screen aren't as obtrusive as those seen on many of the inexpensive sets we've reviewed, and the overall construction is fairly sturdy for being all plastic.
Measuring 44.1 x 25.6 x 2.4 inches, the back of the TV cabinet has a tapered design, making it look less boxy than some budget TVs, and more in line with our favorites, like the TCL 43S517 Roku TV. The set weighs a manageable 21.3 pounds, and like the TCL, the cabinet is widest toward the bottom of the set to accommodate the TV's internal components.
The V505-G9 comes with a pair of plastic feet that are easily attached with a screwdriver, but the TV can also be hung on the wall, thanks to holes for a 200mm x 200mm VESA mount. However, the bulky base of the TV means it won't mount flush with the wall.
Ports
The V505-G9 may not offer a surplus of ports, but it should still do the job. On the back and side of the set are three HDMI ports (including one ARC-enabled port for connecting a soundbar), one USB 2.0 port, a coax connection (and tuner) for antenna and composite video input. For audio, there is an analog output and an optical SPDIF port for digital surround sound.
A built-in Ethernet port provides wired networking connection, but the set also has built-in 802.11ac Wi-Fi. However, the Wi-Fi is the extent of the wireless options, with no Bluetooth for headphones and speakers.
Performance
The 50-inch Vizio is good, but not great, which should be expected at this price. The LCD panel offers good color and brightness, with a full-array LED backlight and support for HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision HDR formats.
HDR performance is OK. A climactic nighttime battle in Spider-Man: Homecoming was filled with glowing flames against a dark night sky. But while the highlights shone with higher brightness, shadowy details were harder to make out. A black suit against a dark night sky was difficult to distinguish, and the crushed blacks frequently left darker scenes looking muddled.

Our lab testing showed that the LCD panel produced 96.7 percent of the Rec 709 color space, which falls short of the 100 percent or better we'd like to see – the TCL 43S517 Roku TV and the LG UK6300 43-Inch 4K TV both did better at 99.8 percent – but it is an improvement over other inexpensive sets, like the Polaroid 55-inch 55T7U (94.8 percent).
Color accuracy is another aspect to picture quality, and one where the Vizio did pretty well. When measured with our X-Rite i1 Pro spectrophotometer and SpectraCal's CalMAN Ultimate professional calibration software, the V505-G9 had a Delta-E rating of 2.2 (using the TV's calibrated mode). A score of zero is perfect. That's not quite as good as the TCL 43S517 Roku TV (1.7), but it's better than the LG UK6300 (3.6) and miles ahead of other sets that had Delta-E ratings of 3 or higher, indicating wider deviation from the colors that should be displayed on the TV.
The V505-G9 did exhibit some minor issues handling small moving details. Scrolling credits, for example, sizzled as they moved across the screen. It's not a noticeable issue during the actual viewing of a movie – we only saw it in the credits to Spider-Man, not the movie itself – but in certain circumstances it will be impossible to ignore. Turning up the motion smoothing helped a bit, but the problem never fully disappeared.
When we connected our Xbox One X game console to test 4K gaming, we saw that both 10-bit color and Dolby Vision were supported, but 4K gaming was limited to lower frame rates; it would support 24 Hz gaming, but not 60 Hz, despite the TV having a 60Hz refresh rate.
Audio
The sound quality from the V505-G9 is pretty good for a TV with only two 10-watt speakers, offering decent clarity and loudness. With no subwoofer, low-end sounds are hampered, and there was some clipping when the volume is dialed up to higher volumes.
Oddly enough, once you've turned up the speakers to around 75%, you won't get much more loudness out of them, even as you creep closer to 100% volume. The sound gets only get incrementally louder. The bottom line is that the sound is fine, but you might want a cheap soundbar if you demand more audio oomph. If you want an even better experience, pick a soundbar with Dolby Atmos support, as the V-Series will handle the higher-end format with ease.
Smart Features
Though the V-Series model line isn't billed as part of the SmartCast family, it still comes with Vizio's SmartCast operating system, and delivers all of the benefits (and irritations) of that platform.
Current Vizio TVs support a handful of local apps, like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video and YouTube TV, along with free streaming services, like YouTube, Crackle, Xumo and Pluto TV. Vizio also offers a dedicated free streaming option called WatchFree, which delivers more than 100 channels of linear TV over the internet. While this is mostly a repackaged version of Pluto TV, it is convenient to be able to jump to free channels just by switching to a new input instead of digging through the app menu.

Although we wish that there were more apps that could be installed on the set, Vizio does open up a huge number of potential apps by including a built-in Google Chromecast. That functionality lets you share content from a huge number of phone and tablet apps, and that flexibility makes it a great choice for cord-cutters who aren't put off by the need for a second device.
You can also add voice control to the V505-G9 by pairing the TV with a Google Home or an Amazon Echo. The TV has no built-in microphones or voice assistant, but that's not a feature we see regularly offered in TVs at this price.
Remote
The Vizio remote control is the same basic model you'll see on any of the company's other TVs, which is both good and bad. The oval candy bar of a remote has buttons for navigating through menus and apps, number buttons for channel input and up/down controls for channel and volume.
Up at the top of the remote are six dedicated buttons that give you one-touch access to popular apps, like Amazon Prime Video, Crackle, iHeartRadio, Netflix, Vudu and Xumo. These preprogrammed buttons are nice if you happen to want the apps they offer, but if not, they're essentially ads to ignore – Vizio has deals with each to get that prime-branded access.
The buttons are mounted flush with the surface of the control, making it hard to navigate the controls by feel. We'd like to see something like backlit buttons or glowing letters on the remote – since it will be hard to see what's what in a room darkened for movie night – but these are problems we've had with Vizio remotes in every price range.
Bottom Line
The Vizio V-Series 50-inch 4K HDR Smart TV (V505-G9) manages to come through with a surprising amount of capability for a midtier 4K TV. As a TV, it has good color and decent HDR support, with capable built-in audio. The addition of Vizio's SmartCast software, which includes apps, free content, built-in Chromecast and compatibility with Amazon and Google smart speakers, makes it a full-featured smart TV as well.
While our top pick for TVs under $500 remains the TCL 43S517 Roku Smart 4K TV, thanks to a slightly better feature set – it has the same Dolby Atmos support as well as Roku TV's oft-omitted voice-search capability – the Vizio V-Series (V505-G9) is a close second. If you want an affordable 4K smart TV with plenty of great features and strong performance, the Vizio is a solid bargain.

Sharing Viewing Data with Data Partners. VIZIO associates Viewing Data with other data about the performance, settings, or features of a particular VIZIO device. Our authorized cloud service providers may store this data solely on our behalf and for no other purposes. We may share Viewing Data with vendors, consultants and service providers who work on our behalf and make our business-to-business activities in digital advertising possible. We also license Viewing Data to analytics companies, media companies, advertisers, ad agencies, and other ad technology companies who measure ad effectiveness or aid personalization of ads, through written agreements which strictly prohibit attempts at identification or re-identification of shared information. Viewing Data is used for the purposes listed below:
- Summary Analytics and Reports. VIZIO’s select data partners analyze Viewing Data to create summary reports to help deliver relevant information and advertising to interested groups of consumers. These summary reports are built from automated analysis of data elements, without connecting the information to any known natural person. For example, a data partner who is an advertiser may want to measure the effectiveness of their promotions, in the aggregate. Thus, the data partner may identify another device that shares an IP address with the VIZIO TV or display and analyze: (a) whether a particular website was viewed or commercial location was visited by a device with location tracking enabled (e.g., a smartphone) after a related promotion was viewed, and (b) whether a particular program was viewed following exposure to a promotion for that program. In addition, some data partners are authorized to use a third-party data aggregator to identify demographic traits (such as gender or age range or income range) associated with the IP addresses that VIZIO collects, and then send to the data partners the demographic information associated with those IP addresses.
- Audience Measurement. VIZIO and select data partners may use Viewing Data to understand what customers watch in order to deliver more relevant content and advertising, for example, by determining which programs are most popular, how many people watch a program to its conclusion, and whether and how often people watch commercials. VIZIO and select data partners may also combine Viewing Data with other demographic and similar information, including by working with data aggregators.
- Tailored Advertisements. VIZIO also licenses Viewing Data to select data partners for the purpose of targeting advertising to VIZIO TVs or other digital devices that share the IP address of VIZIO TVs, based on viewing history collected from that TV. VIZIO or its data partners are sometimes authorized to enhance Viewing Data with household demographic data and data about digital actions (e.g. digital purchases, location, and other consumer behavior taken by devices associated with the IP Address VIZIO collects), for the purpose of delivering relevant advertising that are likely to be useful or timely, including during broadcast, cable, satellite, or internet based television programming
VIZIO does not permit data partners to combine or associate the Viewing Data with any information that will result in the Viewing Data becoming identifiable to individual customers. VIZIO may combine information (including Activity Data or Viewing Data) collected with other information so that VIZIO can provide, market, and improve VIZIO’s products and services – such as by enhancing popular product functionality and by modifying services to better meet VIZIO’s customers’ needs. VIZIO may also match your data with VIZIO’s partners’ data to help market VIZIO’s products or services to you and provide advertising tailored to your individual interests based on how you browse and shop online.
Other Circumstances for Disclosing Information. VIZIO will disclose information as required by law, or if any of the following applies in VIZIO’s judgment:
- It is necessary to respond to lawful governmental requests or legal process (for example, a court order, search warrant, or subpoena).
- The information is relevant to a crime that has been or is being committed.
- An emergency exists that poses a threat to your safety or the safety of another person, or it is necessary to protect the rights or property of VIZIO or VIZIO’s employees.
- If the ownership of VIZIO, Inc. or an affiliate or their respective assets changes as a result of a merger, acquisition, sale of assets, or in the unlikely event of a bankruptcy, information may be transferred to another company. That company may only use information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
International Transfers. VIZIO is a company located in Irvine, California in the United States. If you are located outside of the United States, please be aware that any information VIZIO collects may be processed and transferred to the United States and be subject to U.S. law. By using VIZIO products and services or providing VIZIO with any information, you consent to the collection, processing, maintenance, and transfer of such information to and in the U.S.
IV. Consumer Controls for the Handling of Information
Controlling Your Email Marketing Choices. You may opt out of receiving marketing emails from us at any time by following the instructions in those messages (often it will be a notice or link at the bottom of the message). If you opt out, we may still send you non-marketing emails, such as emails about your accounts and our business dealings with you, or, as allowed by applicable law.
Controlling How SmartCast Products Collect Your Data. You are not required to create a personal account to use your SmartCast Products. You may use your SmartCast Products and services (a) without registering the product to your name and email address, (b) by using the SmartCast Mobile App in Guest Mode, and/or (c) without using the SmartCast Mobile App at all. As described below, in Guest Mode, VIZIO may nonetheless build a history of your interactions with a SmartCast Product even though VIZIO does not know who you are. Users of SmartCast products and services have a number of ways to control information connected with your device:
- SmartCast Mobile App – myVIZIO. You may use your myVIZIO account to connect to the SmartCast Mobile App. You may also sign into the SmartCast Mobile App using a social networking credential (such as Facebook).
- SmartCast Mobile App – Guest Mode. You can operate your SmartCast Mobile App in Guest Mode. To do so, pair the tablet that may be included in the box or your own device with the SmartCast display, and choose to proceed in the SmartCast Mobile App in guest mode. In that circumstance, VIZIO will create a guest profile and deliver personalization of content and other SmartCast Mobile App features and functionality, but VIZIO will not associate your Activity Data or (when and if enabled) any Viewing Data with any myVIZIO account or user profile name.
- SmartCast TV or Display.Prior to collecting Activity Data, the SmartCast TV applications will show a notification explaining the nature and purpose of the Activity Data collection, separate and apart from this Privacy Policy.
- Disabling Automated Content Recognition (“ACR”)/Viewing Data. Prior to enabling Viewing Data collection on your SmartCast TV or display, VIZIO will request your express acknowledgment and acceptance. Only upon acknowledgment and acceptance will VIZIO collect Viewing Data from your SmartCast TV or display. Each unit will receive a notification, explaining the nature and purpose of the feature, separate and apart from this Privacy Policy. Viewing Data will only be collected from units that choose to “AGREE” to collection and use of Viewing Data. Thereafter, at that time, and any time after, you will have the option to change the setting for the ACR feature/Viewing Data collection off or on from the Settings menu of your VIZIO device. Turning if off will not affect the performance of your VIZIO device but will trigger the deletion of historical logs of Viewing Data for the device from VIZIO’s data base.
Controlling the Collection of Viewing Data. For textual as well as graphical instructions on how to turn Viewing Data off or on, visit http://www.vizio.com/viewingdata. If you are unable to locate the Viewing Data setting on your VIZIO TV or display, contact VIZIO customer service by emailing privacy@vizio.com or calling (855) 472-8817. Please note that if your TV or display is ever reset to factory settings, the device will return to its default settings, and Viewing Data will be reset to the “OFF” position. You may again turn the feature on by following the procedure described above.
Turning the Viewing Data feature off or on will affect only the TV or display where you have made that selection. When you turn off collection of Viewing Data (if it was previously turned on), logs of Viewing Data will be deleted from our database.
However, even if Viewing Data is turned off, information other than Viewing Data will still be collected from you when you separately provide such information, such as when you submit a support request or participate in a promotion and from other sources as described elsewhere in this Privacy Policy.
REMINDER: You always have the option to control the collection of Viewing Data in your TV or display’s Settings menu. Viewing Data collection is only enabled if a user AGREES to this collection. However, for a period of time you may continue to see tailored ads on other devices that were targeted on the basis of Viewing Data that was shared before you turned off collection. Disabling the Video ACR (Viewing Data) feature in the Settings Menu will not, however, affect or limit Activity Data collection through SmartCast Products, which is used to personalize and recommend content within the SmartCast TV, display or SmartCast Mobile App. If you intend to sell or otherwise give away your VIZIO TV or display, you should perform a “factory reset.”
