How do I install MacKeeper?
- Go to MacKeeper.com
- Click Download in the top-right corner
- Open the downloaded file named MacKeeper

Where do I find the MacKeeper installer?
Open Finder and select Downloads from the left sidebar. The MacKeeper installation package named MacKeeper.dmg or MacKeeper.pkg is in this folder.
Why does the MacKeeper installation take so long?
Installation time for MacKeeper depends on your internet connection speed. After all the required data downloads from our servers, the installation time takes approximately five minutes. If it takes longer, please contact our support team.
What password should I enter when installing MacKeeper?
Please enter your Mac admin password. This is the one you use to log in to your Mac.
How do I know when MacKeeper is finished installing?
MacKeeper is successfully installed once you see the @svg('faq/app-icon') icon in your menu bar (it’s in the top-right corner of your desktop). If you open MacKeeper, in most cases you should also see a blue Start Scan button at the bottom of the window. Now you can click Start Scan to proceed with using MacKeeper.
2. Get started
Can I use MacKeeper for free? Is the activation free?
MacKeeper scans your Mac for free, so you can see how it works. However, to fix the items found, you’ll need to purchase a license.
How do I activate my MacKeeper license?
- Open MacKeeper, and go to the top-left corner of your screen
- Click MacKeeper next to the Apple logo, and choose Enter Activation Code
- Look for the activation code in your inbox, copy it, then paste it in the MacKeeper window—click Apply Code
- If you don’t have a MacKeeper account, create one; If you already have an account, log in
- MacKeeper is activated—enjoy!
Where do I find my activation code?
Check your inbox for your MacKeeper order confirmation email. Remember to check the Spam or Junk folders as well. If you still can’t find your activation code, please contact our support team.
Why doesn't it accept my activation code?
Your solution depends on the kind of error message you see.
The activation code has already been applied to your MacKeeper account. Please log in.
This means you’ve already activated your code. Now simply log in to your MacKeeper account:
- Open MacKeeper, and go to the top-left corner of your screen
- Click MacKeeper next to the Apple logo, choose Preferences, and open the Account tab
- Log in to your MacKeeper account
- Your valid MacKeeper license will be automatically activated
Your activation code is not valid.
If you see the error message above, you either entered the activation code incorrectly, or you’ve entered a nonexistent activation code. Please double check your activation code to make sure you’ve copied it correctly. If you continue to have issues, please contact support.
A valid activation code must be 16 character long and include both letters and numbers.
If you’ve already purchased MacKeeper, look for the MacKeeper order confirmation email in your inbox and copy your activation code. If you still see this error, contact our support team.
How do I clean my Mac with MacKeeper? What do I do after activating MacKeeper?
- Select Find & Fix from the MacKeeper sidebar
- Run a system scan by clicking the blue Start Scan button
- Fix all the items found by clicking the blue Fix Items Safely button
- Once the cleanup is done, click the Finish button
Why is the Find&Fix scan stuck on cleaning?
If the Find & Fix scan seems stuck or it doesn’t remove all the items, try the following:
- Select Safe Cleanup from the left MacKeeper sidebar
- Click Stop Scan...
All cleaning items should be fixed.

How do I manage my MacKeeper licenses?

- Click Edit next to the password or email address you want to change

- Click Memory Cleaner, and select Apps & Processes

- Click Start Scan to scan your entire Mac for duplicate files—alternatively, you can click Custom Scan to check a specific folder for file copies
- See the list of duplicate files to the left; click any item in this list to see a preview and the location of each file copy found
- Select the duplicate files you want to remove—by default, MacKeeper selects all file copies, but you can manually review which ones to keep and which to delete
- Once you select file copies to remove, click Remove Duplicates
- Click Finish and remember to empty your Trash
How do I use MacKeeper to update the apps installed on my Mac?
MacKeeper comes with an Update Tracker. It’s an easy way to find the latest version for most of your Mac apps.
Here’s how to update your apps to the latest versions available:
- Open MacKeeper, and select Update Tracker from the left sidebar
- Click Scan for Updates to check which of your apps can be updated
- See the list of apps to update—you can click on each item to learn more about what’s new in this update, update requirements, and the version of the app currently installed on your Mac
- Select the apps to update, and click the blue Update All or Update button
- If the selected apps are running, MacKeeper will ask your permission to quit the apps you want to update

7. Track My Mac
How can I set up the Track My Mac service?
MacKeeper comes with an alert system called Track My Mac. It’s designed to help you find your Mac if it gets lost or stolen. Here’s how to activate it:
- Open MacKeeper, and select Track My Mac from the left sidebar
- Click the blue Install Track My Mac button at the bottom
- Create your free MacKeeper account—if you already have an account, click Log In at the top-right corner of the window, and log in to your MacKeeper account
- Click Install Track My Mac again, and select Agree in the next window
- Click MacKeeper next to the Apple logo, choose Preferences, and open the Track My Mac tab.
- Check the box for Snapshot the Intruder—also, make sure the Enable Location Tracker box is checked
- Install the Track My Mac app for your iPhone.
- Log in to Track My Mac on your phone using your MacKeeper account credentials.
How can I find my lost or stolen Mac?
Now, if your Mac goes missing, you can report it as stolen either from your MacKeeper account or from the Track My Mac app on your phone.
Once your missing Mac is connected to the internet, you’ll get a picture of the suspect along with their location and network details in a report. Just click View Reports in your MacKeeper account or tap the Reports tab in Track My Mac on your phone to check the latest report.
Send this report to your email or print it and take it to the police. It’ll help them get your Mac back.

- Find Screen Locker Options, and select After 5th entry attempt from the drop-down menu
Alternatively, you can turn off the Screen Locker feature to see if this is the reason for your webcam’s green light. However, for security reasons, we recommend that you keep the Screen Locker Options checkbox always selected.
8. Uninstalling
How do I uninstall MacKeeper?
Before you start uninstalling, quit the MacKeeper app. To do so, press the Cmd and Q keys simultaneously. Now, proceed with uninstalling.
- Click Finder, select Applications from its left sidebar, and find MacKeeper in the apps list
- Drag the MacKeeper icon to the Trash
- Enter your Mac password, and click OK to confirm
- Empty the Trash and restart your Mac
